The project will reach approximately 10,000 direct beneficiaries, who reside mainly in marginal urban areas. The primary beneficiaries will be students, teachers and principals that are converted from existing Escuelas de Tiempo Completo (ETC), and the students and their families living in areas of high urbanization where new schools will be built. Adverse environmental effects of the Project, if any, will be minor and localized. The potential environmental impacts of the construction generally can be direct or indirect. While a direct impact may change the topography of the land for the implementation of a project, the indirect impacts are the changes that are induced into the environment, population, the use of land and environmental resources. Potential adverse impacts include: Air pollution, air emissions (eg. La salvaguarda ambiental OP 4.01 incluía: i) construcción de escuelas nuevas; ii) construcción de aulas nuevas en las escuelas existentes, y iii) rehabilitación de salones de clases. Los riesgos primarios considerados en la Evaluación Ambiental, estaban asociados con el periodo de construcción e incluían: i) un incremento en la polución de aire y nivel de ruido; ii) disposición de los residuos de construcción; iii) interrupción potencial o limitación en los accesos a viviendas y negocios cercanos al lugar en donde se construían y/o rehabilitaran las escuelas; iv) incremento potencial de accidentes; y v) potenciales molestias durante la construcción (por ejemplo ruidos, polvo, residuos).
